Themes That Stay With Me

Heritage & Memory

I’m interested in the things we inherit without always realising it. Yoruba textiles, adornment, objects, stories and the little details of home often find their way into my work.

—

Women & Identity

A lot of my work centres Black women. Sometimes they are imagined, sometimes they come from something I have seen or felt. I’m interested in the many ways women can exist, quietly, boldly, traditionally, freely.

Home & Belonging

Home shows up in my work through ordinary things: a veranda, a broom leaning against a wall, the afternoon light, a familiar landscape. These moments can seem insignificant, but they hold a lot.

—

The Inner World

Some paintings are less about what is happening around us and more about what is happening inside us. I use figures, landscapes and symbolism to explore memory, emotion, vulnerability and the things we sometimes struggle to put into words.
